The historic New Orleans character is still there, even with the room upgrades, which I really liked. It felt safe and clean, and the location was ideal. Getting luggage up the stairs to the second floor can be tough, so if stairs are an issue for you, I'd ask for a first-floor room. I loved the room and the stay, and would come back.

We opened the room door and found flies everywhere, including around the bed and in the bathroom. The AC wasn't working either, so the room was hot on top of being full of flies. Getting there had already been a hassle because we had to walk a couple of blocks to collect the keys. It was just a bad experience. We ended up having to get our keys from Lamothe Hotel, and that place had nicer rooms and nicer people.

You can hear a lot through the walls. I even woke up to the neighbors having a very enthusiastic night, and it sounded like every bit of it was happening in my room. Maybe I'm just jealous 😅. Still, the place was clean and cozy, and the location made it easy to get everywhere nearby. Parking for loading and unloading was handy too. A nice place to stay if you don't expect much soundproofing. If it had been an expensive hotel, I'd have given it three stars.

The main issue for me was how automated everything felt. There's no accessible lobby on site, and staffing seems to have been cut back. Our virtual key stopped working, so we had to wait for someone to come let us into the room. They were very nice, but having no real human presence takes away from the experience. Otherwise, the room was clean, pleasant, and fairly quiet for an old building. We could hear our neighbor's TV, though street noise was minimal, so bring earplugs in case you get a loud neighbor. The location and value were good, and I'd stay again.

The location and price were good, and I don't regret booking, but next time I'd ask for a courtyard room or one upstairs. Our door opened right onto the street, and on our last night two rats got into the room and started eating the beignet mix beside my suitcase. It took a while to get them out. Then I had to clean my suitcase, throw away the souvenir, and worry they'd come back. I wish the staff had warned us to keep all food, even sealed food, somewhere rats couldn't reach. There are no fridges, so keep things zipped in a bag or tucked away. We also learned that a famous murder happened across the street in 1926, and another similar one happened a few houses away in 2009. It didn't bother us, but some people might want to know. I brought palo santo to cleanse the room and protect us from spirits 👻. The corner store is open 24 hours, and Billy, the owner, is the best.
