Midtown Hotel - Downtown New Orleans

There was standing water in our room, a roach on the floor, and major water damage on the ceiling that looked like an active leak. The room was filthy and clearly hadn't been maintained, and the place felt unsafe and unsanitary. These are serious basic health and upkeep problems. People paying for a room shouldn't have to worry about pests or leaks. The hotel should be embarrassed to charge guests for this. I absolutely wouldn't recommend staying here, and management needs to deal with these issues immediately.

DO NOT STAY HERE! I was told I'd get a refund for one day because of the problems, but now nobody will answer me. What a dump. The room had no fridge, coffee, bathroom outlets, or closet rods. There was no ice bucket, and the towels were dingy. Sometimes we only had cold water. The one luggage cart was lousy and had to serve all four floors, and there was just one microwave for the whole building.

The bed was comfortable, pretty much the one good thing I can say. Our room had almost no furniture, just the bed, two wall nightstands that looked ready to fall off, and a small table with one chair. The walls had plenty of unfinished patchwork, and the lampshades looked like they'd fought a honey badger. You get what you pay for, I guess. We were on the fourth floor, and the elevator was out for most of our stay, so we had to use the stairs every time we came or went. I also got nervous about the key security. When my key wouldn't work, a housekeeper let me in, and later the desk recoded a replacement key after asking only for my room number. They should have checked my identity first, in case it wasn't actually my room. It wasn't a terrible stay, but it wasn't very good either.

The bed was comfortable, the location worked well, and the pool area looked decent. Staff were friendly, and the lobby felt welcoming. We had no roaches or bed bugs. For a budget place that makes no promises of extras, it did the job, though some things could use improvement. I'd come back if other places were charging ridiculous prices. We were there for Jazz Fest with our family, and everything else cost a fortune. $280 for four people for three nights worked out to $70 each, a bargain during a festival. The room was bare, not even a picture on the wall. The flooring was uneven, some fixtures crooked, and some outlets didn't work. I was surprised there was a flat-screen TV. The bathroom was fine, with conditioning shampoo and bar soap, but we waited a day for extra towels for our group of four. The first-floor vending machines were low on stock and took only bills or coins. There was an ATM and microwave there, and the ice machine was on the second floor. The elevator smelled unpleasant and seemed dated, though it worked. This is just a place to sleep, with a comfortable bed and no bells and whistles. They seemed to be working hard on the pool area.
