Plaza Suites Downtown New Orleans

The staff were great, and the rooms felt cute and comfortable. There's a little kitchen with a proper stove and a mini fridge-freezer. It's an easy walk to the Quarter, and the neighborhood felt safe to me. I'd recommend staying here.

I loved being able to walk everywhere throughout my stay, but I won't come back to this location. The front desk attendants were rarely available, and at night nobody was onsite, just reachable by phone. That meant no towels or toiletries until morning. When I entered my room, there was a huge cockroach crawling on the bed. I'm still traumatized. The toilets upstairs and downstairs in our two-bedroom suite went out of order at least five times a day. They even offered to let me keep the plunger. The hotel has plumbing problems throughout.

The caretakers were wonderful, knowledgeable, and accommodating, and I'd absolutely stay here again. Our suite had two separate rooms, each with its own bathroom, plus a full kitchen that was great for reheating the oversized restaurant meals you often bring back. It's a charming old historic building, with cobblestone floors at street level and rooms facing an interior atrium. The floors creak and you can hear the neighbors talking softly, but to me that added to the character. The convention center is a 7-8 minute walk away, and the edge of the French Quarter is about 15-18 minutes on foot.

The unit itself was very nice and well stocked, and we learned about free parking at the casino garage if you validate it with casino activity. We were about a third of a mile from the French Quarter, so there was plenty of walking. A kitchen bulb went out above the stove on our first full day, making it hard to see while cooking. It was never replaced, and the checkout representative wasn't apologetic when I raised it. The check-in attendant wasn't helpful. He only mentioned luggage carts after we'd carried everything in from the car, and his directions were so vague that we took the wrong elevator. There are two, but he hadn't mentioned that, so we had to return and ask again before finding our room.
