The night clerk was nice, and the suite looked decent at first. The ice machine worked too. Beyond that, the two-night stay was a mess. I had to shoulder the door open, and it scraped loudly. The bed’s cheap hollow aluminum frame popped and rang whenever we moved. I even tried the “couples rocking test” as a joke, and the bed slid about a foot from the wall with a cymbal-like sound. My wife laughed and said we might be here for Jazz Fest, but we weren’t making that kind of music. I’m a light sleeper, so I eventually put on noise-canceling headphones to block the bed sounds when either of us shifted. The shower had a weak flow, though the temperature was good. After a day wandering the Quarter, we came back to find the fridge had failed and about $60 worth of our road-trip food was lost. The next morning, the continental breakfast listed online wasn’t available. So if you’re strong, deaf, celibate, happy with false advertising, and have money to waste on food, Room 101 at the Rodeway Inn is for you.

We’d have looked for another place if we hadn’t been driving all day. The toilet in our first room didn’t work, and the second smelled of mold and mildew. The sheets there didn’t look clean either.

I picked this place for a weekend event at UNO Lakefront Arena, which was less than five miles away, so the location worked perfectly for me. The room was enjoyable, with a decent bed, a nice, very clean shower, and a TV with plenty to watch. I caught up on a favorite show I’d missed while traveling using the On Demand options, which was a nice surprise. My friends and I also found lots of food nearby, and people around the area were hospitable and kind. There was a small casino across the street within walking distance, though we didn’t go.

Clean room, no bugs, easy check-in, and they didn’t hold a deposit. I liked the TV and movie channels, and the pillow-top mattress was soft. There was shampoo, soap, and even a coffee maker in the room. It’s not fancy, and $100 a night feels a little steep, but this is the Big Easy and you won’t find many cheaper places besides hostels. I’d recommend it and stay again.

The room itself was decent and the location was okay, but service was a struggle. We had to track down staff for fresh linen and trash removal, and the front desk was poor at customer service. They registered our room incorrectly, so every time we returned from visiting our son in the hospital, we had to get the keys reset. The people working both day and night seemed unsure how to handle our booking issue. Management had only a tiny reception window inside a locked foyer and didn’t look professionally dressed. We also had an overcharge refunded to our bank account. The hotel seemed to still be following strict pandemic isolation rules. Continental breakfast was advertised online, but the locked reception area wasn’t open to guests. I wouldn’t stay here again.
