You might be fine here for a night or two, but I wouldn’t stay longer. I found the landlords controlling and unfriendly, and I experienced more discomfort in this house than anywhere else. I also saw tenants being disrespected repeatedly. The porch has cute chimes and the landlords wear patchwork parachute pants, but that doesn’t make them cool or kind. They push good people to comply with their strange agendas while wearing clothes and essentially mocking the culture that draws people to this town and their hostel. I was fooled by the appearance, and I’m sharing this so it won’t happen to someone else. If you want to enjoy the place you’re paying to live in, don’t choose this one.

My fiancé, a friend, and I stayed one night and had a lovely room that fit all three of us comfortably. The staff were helpful and friendly, and knew the good places to eat and shop in town. Special thanks to Becky for recommending lunch at frank's fresh pickling co., the sandwiches were great. We’ll definitely be back!

We paid $70 a night for two people, with a little extra for more guests, so this is very much a get-what-you-pay-for stay. Still, the staff were friendly and helpful about things to do, and there’s a kitchen open late if you want to cook. Our ground-floor private room had a queen bed, bunks, AC, and its own bathroom and shower, with just a door separating the bathroom from the sleeping area. Parking out back and beside the driveway was handy since street parking usually costs money. The location is hard to beat: right by the Trailways bus station and an easy walk to the restaurants and shops New Paltz is known for. I’d stay again if I needed a place.

The town was lovely, but I wouldn’t book this hostel again because the access rules kept me from exploring as much as I wanted. There’s a strict 10pm curfew, and if you’re late, you’re locked out. Guests don’t get a building key, so you have to ring the bell each time and wait for the sole staff member on duty, who’s there from 2pm to 10pm. The hostel was clean and the staff member was nice, but having access only during those hours is ridiculous. I think there are plenty of ways to make it easier for travelers to come and go.

Parking was the one real hassle. A parked car blocked me from fitting into the small lot, so I had to leave my car elsewhere and walk over. Inside, the shared kitchen was very clean, and my private bathroom was spotless. I stayed one night in the sunflower room. It had a desk and chair, mirror, dresser, bed and bunks, plus a bedside table with a lamp and white noise machine. There was also a ceiling fan with a light. Towels, washcloths, body wash, hand soap, disposable earplugs, and the wifi password were all provided. Great place otherwise, and I’ll be back.
