It’s my second stay here, and I’ll be back. The place is relaxed and quiet, with the beach right outside the door. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in New Smyrna Beach, this is a great choice.

The clean, heated pool and convenient spot near it, just a short walk from the beach, were the bright spots of our stay at Colony Beach Club 120. We won’t stay in this unit again. The condo was disappointing, and after my review wasn’t posted, I’m sharing it here so potential renters can see it. The screen door didn’t work and slammed loudly, startling the neighbors and scaring the kids. Its trim had rust and chipped paint, and the deadbolt was loose and nearly falling out. Walking on the filthy floors turned our feet black. Rusty screws littered the patio, and plywood covered the outside storage door, unlike the working doors on other condos. The bathroom faucet’s right handle just spun, and the master bedroom window looked like it had mold or some kind of growth. The kids’ trundle bed was dirty, with a stained mattress cover, so our third child couldn’t use it. Under the bed we found a dusty sock and moldy fruit snacks, which fortunately our two-year-old didn’t find. Other units had family-friendly amenities, while ours had the bare minimum and needed updating. Checkout was confusing too: the guest portal and a tattered note on the fridge said to return keys to the office, but a laminated note on the counter said to leave them there. We couldn’t find the office, which added to the frustration.

We loved our newly remodeled unit: quiet, very clean, and nicely decorated, with stainless steel appliances, marble counters, green touches in both rooms, and a great walk-in shower in the master. There’s a huge frameless TV, the grounds are well kept, the pool never felt too busy, and there’s a gas grill by it. I’d recommend it for a family trip. The serious problem was laundry. We washed personal towels along with several unit towels, but when we came back to the dryer, they were gone. After asking around, someone suggested a cleaning company might have taken them. A worker from one of the companies, whom we’d seen there that afternoon, found a few, but we were still missing five of our big beach towels as well as several unit beach towels, hand towels, washcloths, and bath towels. That was two loads’ worth, and I was shocked. When I said most of it was still missing, the woman with him said she thought she knew where they were. He promised to bring the rest that afternoon or the next morning. We had to check out the next morning, and he never brought them. It was upsetting to lose our own things and the unit’s towels. Also, if your unit doesn’t have its own washer and dryer, the on-site laundromat requires buying a $5 card with a credit or debit card, then adding more money to use it.

The unit was very nice, in an older condo right on the beach. The only downside is that there’s no elevator to the second floor.

Unit 147 was beautifully updated and really comfortable, with beachy decor that suited a vacation by the sea. Colony Beach Club’s grounds are very well maintained, and one of the pools still had its heater on, which was great for us and the kids. The pools and beach are just steps away, and most units seem to have at least some ocean view without the ocean-view price. We’d gladly recommend this unit and the condos in general.
