Econo Lodge Times Square New York

We had two rooms, and from check-in to checkout it was a miserable stay. Even though our rooms were ready, staff wouldn’t let us check into one an hour early so we could use the bathroom, and the hotel has no public restroom. Communication was difficult because the staff barely spoke English. The rooms were dirty, and I doubt the sheets had been washed. One room’s door wouldn’t lock. I had to argue to get moved, and the desk person told me to use the chain. I asked what I was meant to do when leaving the room, and was told, “We are safe hotel, no need to worry.” The price was way too high, especially with better places nearby for just a few dollars more. Avoid it.

The building is old and could use a renovation, but the price and location make up for that. It’s near good food spots, the subway, and pretty much everything around Times Square. The front desk staff were great and pleasant, and they’ll hold your bags if you’re heading to the airport later. If you’re someone who complains about every little thing, this may not be for you.

We checked in around 9 pm after reading the reviews, and it all went smoothly. The elevator is slow, but it’s an old building. Staff were nice, and we got a refrigerator at check-in after requesting one. There’s a good bar across the street, plus some great Japanese and dim sum spots nearby that stay open late. It’s a clean, comfy crash pad right by Times Square, and it was the cheapest option within a 10 mile radius when we came for the holidays. The room is small, so if you want space, pay more somewhere else. Some of these reviews, honestly. If you’re expecting the Hilton, you’ll need to pay Hilton prices.

I just needed somewhere safe to sleep, and this did the job. The bed was comfortable, but the towels smelled like puke, and the street and hallway noise carried into the room. The photos make the tiny rooms look bigger than they are. It was overpriced, though I understand that’s partly the heart of Manhattan location. If sleep is all you need, it’ll do.
