Fairfield Inn by Marriott New York LaGuardia Airport/Astoria

Getting to the airport is easy, and the shuttle is a nice perk. Coffee and tea are kept available around the clock, which I appreciated. The breakfast itself is very basic and not especially tasty. Prices per night are high, and the location isn't good for dining or shopping.

Charles was the standout for me, easily the kindest and most accommodating hotel employee I've met. Fairfield Inn should promote him. The staff overall were great, and there are plenty of good restaurants within a comfortable walk. Just expect to walk anywhere from a quarter mile to a mile to reach places. There was loud music from an event next door on my first night, but no noise problems after that.

That free shuttle to LGA made the choice for me, especially since it got me to the terminal in under 10 minutes for an early flight. I couldn't try the included full breakfast. I was allowed to check in early and leave my bags, which helped on the last night of my trip. The room was great and huge by NYC standards. Just know the subway is quite a walk away.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the free breakfast had a decent range of choices. The staff were very friendly and helpful, which made the stay pleasant. Location is the main issue: the area immediately around the hotel didn't feel like somewhere I'd want to walk alone at night. Restaurants and some downtown life are about a 15-minute walk, while the nearest subway takes around 17-20 minutes on foot. Without a car, it's inconvenient. My window looked straight at a building only 6 ft away.
