Hampton Inn Manhattan/Downtown-Financial District

A blizzard cut our visit down to one day, but the staff quickly got rooms ready for my guests and me before check-in time. We had a junior suite, which was spacious and great. There was a small problem with the door, and they fixed it promptly. Loren helped us find affordable transport to the airport, and Quiriat was wonderful with arranging the room and helping with transportation too. A 10/10 stay.

We only spent one night here, but I’d happily return. The room was small, as you’d expect in Manhattan, yet clean and quiet, with a comfortable bed and pillows, steady temperature, and a good-sized bathroom with great water pressure and hot water. The team made things easy from the start. They stored our bags before the room was ready and after checkout so we could go sightseeing. The night clerk was especially attentive, answered all our questions, and even brought more hot water and cocoa when it ran out. Breakfast was included, with eggs, sausage, potatoes, cereal, waffles, bread, juice, tea, and coffee. It wasn’t fancy, but it was enough to get us going before we went out to see the sights and found a bigger meal later.

For our needs, it was well worth the money. The room on the third floor was fine, though the shower pressure was a bit weak. Breakfast had a good range of choices, and the staff were polite and helpful. My husband and I also liked how close it was to Battery Park, about a five-minute walk to the Statue of Liberty ferry, and roughly 15 minutes on foot to World Trade Centre.

The room never got warm enough because the thermostat was broken, and the cold air made me feel even sicker. We were visiting New York during the coldest weather, near the water, and hoped for a vacation where we could enjoy ourselves. Instead, when we raised the problem, someone looked at the thermostat, agreed it was broken, and left us with an old portable heater. The desk offered an extra blanket, but that didn’t solve the cold air issue. We also asked for clean towels and fresh sheets, while making clear that we didn’t need the whole room cleaned. Nothing was done. When we returned, the room was unchanged and there were no towels. The desk later said the housekeepers had left, even though we’d asked with time to spare. The staff member brushed off the request and still never sent towels. I was too exhausted to keep pushing after feeling ignored. Staff need better support and hospitality training.
