The bed was comfortable, and the hotel is near 9 Ave Metro Station. There’s a heater, too. But I wouldn’t recommend staying here in NYC. The walls are thin enough that you hear people next door, street noise, and just about anything in the hall. There’s a strong smoke and weed smell, so if that bothers you, avoid it. The covers were too thin to keep warm in the bitter December and January cold. The hotel is older and cheaper, and some things looked bad and weren’t clean. There weren’t toiletries beyond a thin bar of soap, and not many nearby convenience stores stayed open late. I booked through American Forces Travel, then was asked to pay an additional room service fee when I arrived. During my four days and three nights, I also found that the remote didn’t work with the LG TV. Staff said they’d get a remote or move us, but none arrived. I called three times and got a different staff member each time, with nobody knowing what was happening. It felt like poor management and communication, and there seemed to be only two different people working the front.

The room was decent and about what I’d expect from a three-star place. Service and location felt closer to two stars, though, and the neighborhood didn’t feel especially appealing. It works if all you need is a bed for the night, but don’t expect many extras. I’d rate the stay four stars, with both good and bad parts.

The sheets seemed clean, and the rooms were okay, but cleanliness was a real issue elsewhere. The pillows were stained and dirty, the towels smelled musty, and the tub looked dirty enough that I didn’t try showering. There were stains on the fridge and curtains, plus lots of dust. The cleaning staff were difficult to deal with too: they were shouting and playing loud music at 7 a.m., waking all of us. They should be more considerate of guests, especially that early.

The train is nearby, which is one plus, but the hotel itself was dirty, outdated, and noisy, with loud sounds and music. A budget price shouldn’t mean a dirty stay, but that’s how it felt here. The previous reviews make the place pretty clear. It seems to be used for things besides resting. There’s a Holiday Inn across the street, so stay there instead.
