La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Queens (New York City)

The shower pressure was great, the location right beside the 7 line made it very convenient to get to our venue, and the staff were pretty helpful. That’s about all I can say for the room. The sheets were dingy, so we slept on our own blanket. One lamp was missing its shade, and the pull-out sofa was broken, left halfway between a bed and a sofa, and unusable for either. The TV remote had no battery cover, and the cabinet door above the fridge was broken off and tucked behind the TV. There were facial hair clippings on the sink. The parking lot had lots of trash and rats rummaging around. Without the shower pressure, this room wouldn’t have earned a star. It wasn’t worth any amount of money for a vacation. My home is cleaner and in better shape.

The room was so bad that we checked out the same day. The toilet was unflushed and unclean, the furniture was falling apart, and there was mold in the bathroom plus liquid stains across the walls. The curtains were broken, and even the mattress squeaked whenever I breathed. We’d paid $50 cash for early check-in, but got no refund for that odd cash transaction. Read the reviews and believe them. I have plenty of photos and would gladly share them.

This is a budget two-star hotel in a good spot, so keep your expectations realistic. The location is good and it was fine for sleeping. I was nervous after reading the reviews, but the sheets, towels, and bathroom were clean, or as clean as they could be. There was some mold on the bathroom ceiling and the furniture could use an update. You can't expect it to look like your local La Quinta at this price.

For the price in NYC, it was about what I expected, and the room was fairly clean. The place felt safe, but a bunch of things didn’t work right: the window wouldn’t lock, the hair dryer was broken, and the bathroom lights kept strobing on and off for about 10 minutes at a time. We needed new key cards twice because ours wouldn’t work. Breakfast was advertised but unavailable due to the pandemic, which I understand, though it had already been two and a half years. Before the trip, we called four times with parking questions and got no answer, then emailed and heard nothing. Their mailbox was full too.
