Night Hotel Broadway

My flight to New York was cancelled on 2/21, so I never made it to the reservation I’d booked through Priceline. I know it had a no-cancellation rule, but this was an unusual circumstance, and I provided proof of the cancellation. The hotel asked Priceline to send an email requesting cancellation, which they did. A few days later Priceline said the request was denied. When I called the hotel, the manager kept repeating that they couldn’t accept the request based on the information provided, but couldn’t tell me what other information was needed. He said I’d have to ask the third party to make another request. After I asked for a supervisor several times, he finally transferred me to voicemail. Priceline said the payment had gone directly to the hotel, so I had to pursue the $331 with them. They kept the money for a booking I never checked into. The management was ridiculous and the manager was no help.

We booked four nights in a Gold class twin room after seeing it had recently been renovated. The price seemed reasonable, and although the hotel’s low ratings made us hesitate, the stay turned out really well. The room was clean and spacious, the beds comfortable, and it was generally quiet, especially at night. There was a low humming sound, but it didn’t bother us. We were there in October and didn’t need the AC, so I can’t say whether it would be loud if left on. The staff were easy to talk to and helpful. We drove and used the parking lot the hotel suggested. With the guest discount, four days cost $160, which isn’t bad for Manhattan. The lot had low ratings too, so we were worried, but it was alright.

The room was clean and roomy, with two double beds, and the facilities looked classy. The hotel is right beside a subway stop, which was handy. Staff were courteous and on the ball the whole time. The small, slow elevator and squeaky bathroom door were the only issues; otherwise, everything was good. It exceeded my expectations.

Everything seemed clean, and the Upper West Side location is great, with easy access to the 2/3 train and food options. The rooms are very bare, though. Ours had a bed, two little nightstands, a desk and chair, and the mini fridge was on the floor. Having so little furniture does leave more floor space than in many NYC hotels, but it also feels pretty monastic. The bathroom reminded me of one in a dorm. It’ll work if all you need is a clean, safe place to sleep and you don’t care much about furnishings or atmosphere. It was the cheapest option when I booked, and now I see why.
