Residence Inn by Marriott New York Downtown Manhattan/Financial District

We booked through booking.com expecting the advertised corner room with skyline views, but were given something else. It felt like false advertising. There was just one window, with buildings blocking the view on both sides. I wouldn’t recommend spending your time or money here. I’d give it zero stars if I could, rather than one. If you’re reading this, don’t waste your time and money.

The room was filthy, the phone handset didn’t work, and getting the elevator took at least 10 minutes each time. Only five of the gym’s ten machines were working. I’ve spent over 2,000 nights at Marriott properties, and this one is among my five worst. As a Lifetime Titanium member, I checked in on the app, but when I arrived there was no room. They said they’d call as soon as one was ready, but never did. Six hours later, I got an email saying they’d give my room away unless I provided a credit card within 30 minutes. Eventually, I did get a room.

I’d stay here again. I spend a lot of time in hotels and don’t stick to one brand for loyalty points, and I found this place friendly, clean, modern, and fairly quiet. Check-in for my four-night stay was quick, with welcoming staff. My room on the 29th floor was clean and modern. The view wasn’t great, which is FiDi, but it wasn’t of a back alley or brick wall either. Breakfast wasn’t the best, but in New York City I’d rather go around the corner to a deli for a BEC sando than eat from a hotel buffet. I wanted to write this after seeing so many negative reviews.

At first I had a great stay, and I appreciated that they offered to upgrade me to a suite. But later I noticed a damage charge on my account. After several calls, they said it was for damage to the TV, which I hadn’t used or touched. I tried to resolve it with the hotel, but they refused to refund me. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Randy Severino and Donoven Duran, the two managers, are committing fraud by stealing money from customers.
