The Sohotel

The building is very cool, the location is excellent, and the hotel was clean with a decent amount of space. Most of the staff were friendly and polite. What’s missing are some basic extras. There’s no coffee or tea in the room, and the lobby coffee is only available in the morning, with no lids for the cups. There’s no elevator, I guess because the building is historic, and only one ice machine on the main floor was working. It was a nice stay, but could have felt a bit more complete.

The hotel has a hip, sultry look, and I picked it because the price was far lower than other options for its location and quality during Met Gala week. I later found out it’s the oldest operating hotel in Manhattan, which is a cool bit of history. I was surprised to learn there was no elevator, especially with my room on the fourth floor. The room was small and sparse. I had to request an iron, and during my four-night stay they didn’t replenish the water bottles.

We knew the rooms would be on the small side, but the hotel’s overall atmosphere made up for that. From the moment we arrived at Sohotel, every interaction was positive. Customer service, housekeeping, and car service were all top notch. It was a great experience!

The staff made our 10-day stay as good as it could be under the circumstances, with our son in a nearby hospital. They were always kind, helpful, accommodating, and smiling. We also loved the cozy little spots for coffee, reading, and visiting, and the rooms were comfortable with everything we needed. The hotel has an interesting history and fabulous modern decor.
