Springhill Suites New York Laguardia Airport

Our flight from Detroit was delayed and we missed our connection home, so we were glad to find a room when few hotels had availability. The free shuttle to and from the airport saved us from needing an Uber. The front desk clerk was very friendly, and both shuttle drivers were nice too. The lobby could use an update, but the room was clean, comfortable, and really nice. Street noise was loud during the day, though with the A/C on at night we couldn't hear it. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The toilet was in a separate space from the shower, which was convenient for two people getting dressed. There was also a living area divided by a desk with sliding glass for privacy. Breakfast was free but disappointing: the turkey and pork sausage, eggs, and fried potatoes were cold, and the waffle batter was very thin. The oatmeal was hot, though, and the breakfast attendant was friendly.

Our flight from Laguardia was canceled, and after failing to find a rental car to drive home, we were waiting in the rental car area. I called the hotel to ask about a shuttle, and they came to pick us up there. It was late, with many flights canceled that evening, so we got one of the last rooms. The man at the desk was courteous and friendly. The lobby was large, and he gave us an extra-large room with two bedrooms, a kitchen area, and a sitting area. It was much more space than my husband and I needed, but would be great for a family with kids. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We asked for a shuttle back to the airport the next morning, and it was ready right at 5:30 a.m. We were only there overnight, arriving late and leaving early, but had no issues.

The rates are reasonable, and getting around is easy with airport transportation and subway stations close by. We did have one late-night airport pickup take a while, but aside from that we keep coming back. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the hotel has a contemporary feel, and the staff are courteous and quick to help. Breakfast had a wide selection, and I especially liked the waffles. There were plenty of business travelers and families around.

The location was good, but the service didn’t come close to matching what we paid. We were there with our young kids, and the room felt like a tiny cabin on a cruise ship. One elevator was out, our toilet clogged one night, and breakfast was unavailable for a couple of days. It wasn’t worth the money.
