The Dominick

The staff were fantastic, and the location and view were both great. Alex from engineering came within about 30 minutes after we reported the very loud AC to the front desk, and fixed it kindly and efficiently, though it still rattled loudly. Stan at the front door was also really nice and helpful about the hotel and nearby spots. The room itself fell short for a five star hotel at the price. The bathroom was updated and spacious, but the shower felt cramped, the toilet sat right beside it, and there was no bathroom door, so privacy was limited. The bed was excessively soft, even though we like a soft bed. Our east-facing room was fully bright by 7AM because the darkening shades didn’t block enough light. There were a few rug stains, and while the room wasn’t old, it didn’t feel new either. The value was poor, as I’d read before the trip. The food we tried was sub-par, and the restaurants we didn’t visit had below average reviews. Everything was very expensive for the quality, even for a five star hotel. The pool was a nice extra, but tiny and shallow, more for lounging. It was already busy in late spring, with the chairs usually full, so I can’t imagine peak summer. There was also a mandatory Destination Fee each night and a valet parking fee, which would be fine at a lower price. I wouldn’t rule out going back, but I’d look at other options first.

The service was very friendly, and it’s easy to walk to lots of nearby restaurants or reach the subway. We didn’t eat at any of the hotel restaurants. Our one bedroom suite was lovely and spacious, with a view to die for in NYC, even if it was of New Jersey.

They checked us in early, which was great, and the room had good space and was well appointed, as was the bathroom. I do wish there had been an iron in the room. The $40 service fee feels like a lot on top of an already high price for what you get. The pool area is nice but small, and I was very disappointed by the pool bar. It had very limited wine, and what they offered was HORRIBLE. The main bar had good wine, so there’s no reason the rooftop couldn’t serve a decent glass too. It’s nice overall, but the price doesn’t make me want to return.

The service at The Dominick was stellar, and the staff were incredibly sweet. I brought my military veteran partner, and they treated him with so much kindness. I’m grateful and hope to visit again soon. Thank you so much!
