The Hotel @ New York City

The room was small but nicely equipped, with lovely decor, a very comfortable bed, and AC. The shower looks good but the water pressure is weak. The hotel has been recently renovated, and its central location is convenient. That location comes with constant door noise from the corridor overnight, which gets even more noticeable from 7 when breakfast starts. The AC unit can be noisy too. Front desk communication was poor, with little engagement or even a smile, and nobody asked how our stay was at checkout. The included breakfast is a nice extra, but the additional tax and security deposit paid on arrival were mentioned when booking and not clearly explained at check-in or check-out. Good location and room, but the noise and unfriendly service let it down.

We stayed in the family room, which was very clean and had nice modern decor. There was a mini fridge, safe, coffee maker, and blow dryer, and the bathroom had plenty of room for two people to get ready in the morning. The staff were lovely. It’s easy to reach the subway from here, and the Empire State Building is a pleasant walk away. Grand Central is 12 blocks on foot. I’d definitely stay again on my next trip to NY.

The room was bigger than I expected compared with the other hotels I’d looked at, and the location was great for sightseeing. It’s about a 10 minute walk to Madison Square Garden and 5 minutes to Broadway. The subway takes 5-10 minutes to reach on foot. We had two queen beds, clean carpet, bedding, and towels. We didn’t notice any bed bugs, and from our room we couldn’t hear traffic. The hotel staff were accommodating, and the three of us were comfortable during our stay. We’d come back. The rooms weren’t perfectly clean, though. There was a strawberry on the floor near the mini fridge and hairs on the toilet seat cover. The free continental breakfast was below par, but it was filling, free, and none of us felt sick afterward. It also saved us the time and cost of another New York meal.

Good value for the room price, and the staff are really friendly. Renovation was underway in October 2018. The updated rooms look nice, though they’re a bit small, and some details were missed, like having nowhere to put soap in the shower. Breakfast is basic but decent. A good choice overall.
