Moderne Hotel

My flight was cancelled because of the historic snowstorm and life threatening conditions affecting NYC and the surrounding area, so I couldn’t make my reservation for the last week of February. I had prepaid, but the hotel still refused to refund me, even though I asked to cancel within the period that allowed a majority refund. I was flying in from out of state. Am I supposed to risk my life just to get to a hotel booking? It feels like they’re punishing people who had to cancel because of circumstances they couldn’t foresee.

The rooms were clean and roomy, and the customer service was among the best we’ve had. It’s a short walk from Central Park. There was some noise from construction on the attached building, though, and the elevators were slow.

The subway is only 0.1 miles away, and the rooms were spacious and clean. Everyone at Moderne Hotel was warm and accommodating, especially supervisor Melissa. On 4/23 in the afternoon, the doorman working with her helped us with our luggage and Uber. We’d come back.

There was no food at all in the lounge in the morning, even though we’d been promised complimentary breakfast. At checkout, a woman at the front desk was rude, had a nasty attitude, and ignored me several times. Our room doors had also locked well before our checkout time. Earlier, we’d booked a suite weeks ahead, but the gentleman at the front told us they didn’t have the room we reserved and offered an alternative that wasn’t any better. We accepted it and were given a later checkout as compensation. This was poor service and hospitality, and not worth the price.
