King Halibut Lodge

We rented the whole lodge for a family of 10 to celebrate my husband's retirement, after it was advertised as high-end lodging. The views were great, but the place was nowhere close to that standard. When we arrived at what’s now called Beach Front Lodge, it was filthy, with dirty floors, trash around, and a kitchen that hadn’t been cleaned. No staff were on site to help. One owner lives out of state and the other was on vacation, so we spent our first afternoon cleaning the kitchen before we could make the food we’d brought. The guest rooms were also dirty, with missing electrical covers and light fixtures. We even found dirty underwear in one room’s bedding. It could become a nice place, but it has a long way to go to qualify as high-end lodging. At the moment, the views are its only good point.

We stayed in the "Bear" room in June 2021, and the beach right outside was a blast for the kids to explore as the tide changed. The room was spacious, with an extra pullout for them, a fancy showerhead, loads of closet storage, and a little balcony with a breathtaking view. The main lodge was comfortable for hanging out, though we liked the wraparound porch best for taking in the scenery. We also fished from the beach and caught halibut from the boat right in front of the lodge. We loved the stay and plan to return soon.

The room was huge, with a comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. And those views and the location were unbeatable. We had beach bonfires every night with the volcanos on the horizon. Epic.

Sue and Derek treated us like family. Their hospitality was remarkable, and the location suited us perfectly. It’s also unusually pet friendly. We’ll definitely return.
