Extended Stay America Suites - Charleston

There was a roach in my room. The TV signal didn’t work, the microwave didn’t work at first, and the heat barely worked. They eventually replaced the microwave. No one works at the front desk until 3:00pm-11:00pm, so if you need anything before then, you’re out of luck. My key stopped working and no one could let me into my room, so I had to sleep in my car. It’s dirty and trashy, and they don’t even provide shampoo, just a bar of soap. I’m low maintenance and have stayed in some of the worst motels, including one without hot water, but this hotel is worse.

I was there for a week and a few days. The staff were nice, but they weren’t accommodating when I raised problems with the bathroom. The door looked as if someone had punched or kicked it. The toilet overflowed three times, and rose a little off the floor whenever anyone sat on it. The floor was uneven and looked like it needed redoing. I told several guest service staff. They reported the issues and gave an excuse, but no one came to fix them. I’d stay again, but it definitely wouldn’t be my first choice. I’d probably pick one of the other properties.

I paid for my reservation and showed up at Extended Stay America, but they told me they were overbooked and wouldn’t let me check in. The front desk told me to contact Agoda for a refund. Agoda can’t refund me because the hotel marked me as a NO-SHOW. I was physically there and spoke with staff. I even asked them to check the cameras to prove it. Instead of taking responsibility, they charged me for a night I couldn’t use and made it harder to get my money back. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels and never had one refuse check-in, keep the money, then block a refund by calling me a no-show. Completely unacceptable service. I’ll never book here again and will warn others to avoid this location.

The room was filthy and stank, and the shower curtain was nasty. I only stayed the one night because the booking was nonrefundable and I was low on cash. I had to clean the room just to get some sleep, but it was so gross I couldn’t sleep anyway.
