We went twice in winter, a couple of years apart, with my husband and our two little dogs. I was looking for somewhere pet friendly, and the views ended up being the big draw. Holiday House was listed as a chalet, though I’m not sure what that means here. To us it felt like a small one-bedroom apartment, with a tiny but usable kitchen and incredible views. We brought our own food and drinks, and guests can use the terrace BBQ too. It’s rustic and could use fresh carpet, paint, and furniture, but we had a good getaway. Don’t expect room service or easy lake access, even though it’s technically waterfront. The appeal is the scenery and being able to bring a pet. If you want an easy beach outing, King’s Beach is up the road; I think there are boat rentals next door as well. The view gets five stars from me. The owners would need to put money into updating the place for me to rate it higher overall.

The rooms were older, but felt homey, and the lake view is spectacular. We got caught in a storm, and the owner was incredibly kind and helpful. She checked the weather with us and let us stay past checkout while we waited to see if the roads would reopen. She made a very stressful situation much easier to handle.

I had a confirmation email, but when I arrived I was told there was no reservation for me. I went back to my car to check my emails, and the owner had disappeared by the time I returned. A week before the trip, she’d also told me they no longer had paddle boards. The property felt run down, dirty, and creepy, and around 5:30 PM it seemed like there were no other guests. My mom and I had to find somewhere else to stay Friday night. Stay away.

The view is hard to overstate. I could sit there for hours, and did. We had a full kitchen and dining area, plus shared spaces including a patio and a waterside sitting area. It felt like home as soon as we walked in. Best location in Tahoe, hands down.

We tried to make the best of a really dirty place. There were spiders, dirt, stains everywhere, and the sheets had stains and hair on them. I took the sheets to the office and offered to put fresh ones on myself, but the owner/operator responded with open aggression and refused to give us clean sheets. She said that if we didn’t like it, we should leave. Scary place.
