Windy Shores I

The beach experience here is amazing. It’s a calm, family-friendly spot compared with the surrounding area. The building is older, but it’s well looked after.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. It’s now a Capital Vacations property, and they say it’s about to be renovated. It really needs major work. There was a lot of noise through the night, and the walls and floor seemed very thin. Metal fixtures were rusty, the elevator floor was falling apart, and some light bulbs were missing. I couldn’t get any lights to turn on in one bedroom. There were stains on the curtains and some bed linens, plus a toilet plunger in a black trash bag in the middle of the bathroom.

I was looking forward to finishing my stay at Windy Shore ll, but a plumbing issue in the apartment above caused water damage and we had to move elsewhere. They found us a nice place on the beach, though.

We ended up spending the rest of our vacation at a resort in Cherry Grove, paying out of pocket after I called them the next morning. A Capital Vacations representative was there, and we told them what had happened. That led to a presentation the following day. They refunded my points, but not the cost of transferring our stay to Myrtle Beach or the unexpected cash we paid for another resort. This was the worst place I’ve ever experienced, and it needs a full update along with new housekeeping and maintenance providers. We’d booked this through Capital Vacations timeshare properties and arrived at 6 pm. Nobody was on site, so we had to call for a lockbox code to get our information and key. Parking was bad, and the outside looked rusty and dirty. The two-bedroom condo smelled terrible. It didn’t seem to have been cleaned that day, even though the offsite manager said someone had checked out that day. On the way to the kitchen, the utility door covering the AC fell on us. The kitchen light took a few minutes to come on, then revealed that the ceiling around the fixture was falling apart and looked like it had been that way for a while. There were no starter supplies like paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher soap, or coffee supplies. The coffee maker was filthy, some dishes were dirty, and the dishwasher had black mold. The kitchen towel kit was old, and the potholder was coming apart into strings. There was no soap in the bathrooms, and several towels had holes. The light fixtures were rusty and badly in need of replacement. A broken blind in the master bedroom had a piece of cut cardboard covering it, and the windows were very dirty. The bed was old and worn, although the sheets looked pretty good. We reported the issues to the offsite manager. They said they’d send maintenance, but since it was Labor Day weekend, they couldn’t say when. Eventually someone came. We told him we wouldn’t stay and would leave in the morning. He brought us a coffee maker from Maritime Beach Club, where the office manager was located.
