Stardust Motel

The water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. Our room seemed clean enough, though the mothball smell was horrible. The location worked well for our family's overnight trip.

We had trouble with the hot water and found ants in the room. The owners were rude and very unprofessional, and would suddenly demand extra payment or tell you to leave. You'd be better off sleeping in your car.

The staff were gracious every time we dealt with them. One night the door lock wouldn't let us in, but the on-site host quickly and happily fixed it. We needed somewhere to sleep about seven minutes from our friends' place, where we couldn't stay for reasons, and it did the job. I'd recommend it if you need a place in that area. If I return, I'll bring my own pillow and turn up my white noise machine more than usual. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, but the pillows had a plastic layer underneath that crinkled and got hot. Noise came through from children and other rooms, and the mini fridge compressor was loud. I didn't unplug it because there was too much ice in the freezer compartment and I didn't want to deal with that. The room felt damp after a very humid summer. The A/C had a dry setting, which helped, but it hadn't been running before we arrived, and it took about a day for the room to feel dry enough that I wasn't sticky. You can't hear the highway from the motel, but the nearby road seems to get treated like one, with big rig brakes and other noise at all hours. I sleep badly unless it's completely dark, quiet, and cool and dry, so some of this is just my own sensitivity. I don't enjoy giving anything less than a great review, but these are my honest impressions. The staff seemed possibly to be family or owners, and every interaction with them was great.

The rooms were decently clean and the price was good. It's quiet and tucked away, with flowers around the property, plus a fire pit, grills, and outdoor seating. The staff are really nice and take good care of the place. It's close to Foxwoods and not far from the beaches.
