Scanlin & McDonald, a local funeral home, recommended The Joseph Ambler (Inn &) Restaurant as a locally owned place with good food and service, and it lived up to that. We hosted a local funeral, with most guests traveling in from out of town, and the meal helped make a difficult day easier. Jamie shared the menu, Bridget handled the booking, and Colleen served us. The chef’s buffet was a highlight, especially the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast and Sirloin Strip Steak. Everyone was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the food. Thank you to the staff for taking such good care of us.

Jan 2, 2026 Colleen was so helpful and communicative throughout our recent funeral reception. The room was clean and nicely decorated, with the tables spaced comfortably so we could talk with all our guests. The buffet was excellent, especially the salmon, and they neatly packed the leftovers for us to take home. Thank you for the kindness and attention to detail.

Parking was easy, and you can exit right onto County line rd. The place has a real classy feel, reasonable prices, and the restrooms were spotlessly clean, which is a big deal. Our group had about 34 people from church, seated eight to a table at very large round tables with plenty of room. Tyler was our server and did a super job. The food was fabulous, and the restaurant staff were exceptionally professional. Easy five stars!

The restaurant has been renovated since our last visit, and it looks very nice. We came for a holiday dinner, and the food was great. The servers were friendly and excellent.

The old building has its limits: there weren’t many outlets by the bed for charging phones, the older TVs didn’t have streaming or movie setups, and the shared areas looked worn. The front door handle even seemed like it might fall off. Still, the room was clean and comfortable, and the historic character, quiet setting, and beautiful surroundings were lovely. Free breakfast was a nice extra. It was a simple buffet with scrambled eggs, sausage links, potatoes, and waffles; the pastries looked homemade and tasted delicious. We got our money’s worth and would stay again.
