French Lick’s restaurants, shops, and events are only minutes away, and the people we met were friendly. Still, our winter night at Lost River Hostel was cold: the room had air conditioning but no heat. The River Bed Suite looked cute, but its description didn’t make clear that it was in a public area, so it felt less private than we expected. The bedding was the biggest problem. There were dead ladybugs and leaves on the sheets, and it didn’t look like they’d been cleaned properly. Photos couldn’t show just how dirty they were. I realize this isn’t a hotel or a typical Airbnb, but for nearly $200, I expected a clean space. We arrived late and didn’t meet many people, though those we did meet were nice. Next time, I’d rather camp.

We came back a second time for our wedding after an amazing one-night stay. The staff and everyone else were so kind and helpful, and whenever we needed assistance, they were right there. They did a great job taking care of everything we needed. It’s just a wonderful place, and I’ll definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the bungalow, made a fire, and laughed with friends. Dinner was a really good French toast casserole, and the next morning my team made breakfast and shared it with the staff. It felt like camping mixed with an Airbnb, with nature, human connection, and the feeling of being part of an experience. If you want a hotel, this isn’t it. I loved it and will be back. The staff are cool and fun, and the shower house is amazing. The tree house is nice if you’re into this kind of outing, though I wish it had indoor plumbing. The bedding needs a thorough wash with bleach and fresh linens, and the spider webs should be cleared out to make the place nicer. 😁

There was plenty to do and see, and the staff even fed us, so we never had to worry about going hungry. They gave my friends and me a tour despite our late arrival, and everyone was friendly. We had more fun than we have in a long time and really enjoyed the stay. It’s a unique experience that opened my eyes to healthier ways of life. Shoutout to everyone who keeps this place going. We’ll be back for sure.
