Staybridge Suites Chicago-Oakbrook Terrace by IHG

We spent three nights here with family, and the location was excellent and felt safe. Parking on site was a big plus, though spaces are limited. The suite was spacious, with a built-in kitchen, dishwasher, and basic utensils. Housekeeping was satisfactory and the food choices were decent. The beds were smaller than expected, not even standard doubles, which made sleeping less comfortable. The AC was noisy at night. Bathroom fixtures and the toilet were noticeably dated and need renovation. One stove coil didn't work, and maintenance response and general upkeep could be a lot better. Handy for the location and suite convenience, but upgrades and stronger maintenance are needed.

I was here for a week for work, and it was the best option for me. My room had a little kitchen with a stovetop, which I loved. The pantry was cute, and it was my first time seeing one. They had a simple happy hour Monday to Wednesday from 17:30 to 19:00. Renovation notes were posted, but that didn't bother me. It was still clean and there wasn't much noise. I'm giving it four stars because the fire alarm went off on my first night. It didn't bother me, but people who'd stayed there a while said it happens more often than not. That shouldn't be a thing. Luckily it didn't go off again, though I kept it in mind during my stay.

The carpet was worn out and dead bugs were smeared across the wall. It made my skin crawl. They didn't change the room, show remorse, or offer compensation, just gave me a nasty attitude. I emailed the general manager, Marisa, and got a basic apology, nothing more. I travel to Chicago for my birthday and usually stay at Staybridge because it has never disappointed me. This location was terrible. I always request an updated room when booking. When I asked the front desk clerk Dee whether she'd seen my note, she said she could cancel my reservation because they don't have updated rooms. That was a horrible response, especially after I'd just driven five hours.

There were roaches and ladybugs all over, and mold in both the rooms and hallways. The toilets, sinks, and tubs barely worked, and the rooms were only half cleaned. Even the keys barely worked for the rooms and side doors. The hotel staff and managers were rude and nasty. They racially profile a lot of people who aren't their skin color. Managers told people to find another hotel if they weren't satisfied with being lied on. One star.
