Hampton Inn Oakhurst-yosemite, CA

We were only here for one night before camping at Yosemite, and the location was very convenient. The rooms were clean and breakfast was free, but what stood out most was the service. The front desk made us feel at home, answered our questions, and shared useful information. Jason was so welcoming, and Brent went out of his way to help us get settled and make sure we had what we needed. Thanks to both of them. We’ll definitely be back! -SY

The customer service is great, and the place seems fairly new. There’s a decent gym, an indoor pool, two elevators, comfortable beds and pillows, nice TVs, and alcohol available in the lobby. The shower takes a little while to warm up, and our room was cold when we arrived and took a while to heat up. It was winter, so I can understand that, even if it wasn’t ideal. The staff’s helpfulness made up for those issues for me. The breakfast setup is why I’m taking off a star. It wasn’t served in this hotel’s breakfast room, but next door at the Fairfield. I was told the nearby Holiday Inn Express also sends its guests there, and that on Sunday breakfast might be at the Hampton instead, with those other two hotels going there too. I didn’t get free Wi-Fi during breakfast, and by 9 a.m. on Saturday they’d run out of everything. Three hotels were relying on one location, with one employee preparing the food and apparently only enough being put out for one hotel. Luckily it wasn’t raining while I was there. Taking breakfast back to my room would have been difficult too. To me, this arrangement makes the ownership of the three properties look extremely cheap. I suspect it could be fraudulent, though I don’t know that for sure. I doubt Marriot, Hilton, and IHG know their hotels are serving breakfast to guests from competitor properties. I’d also bet the owner, who may be the same for all three, gets franchise benefits as if there weren’t nearby competitor hotels under the same ownership. Just be aware that breakfast may not be on site. I’ve never seen that at a Hampton before, even at one near other properties.

We had plenty of parking, and the breakfast was great. The rooms were clean and neat, with no signs of previous guests. This was a perfect place to stop on the way to Yosemite, and I’d highly recommend it. At check-in, a very friendly and pleasant gentleman quickly sorted out an issue for us. Special thanks to him, and sending him good vibes. The stay exceeded our expectations.

Our car broke down, so we needed to stay about three extra days. The staff helped us so much, and manager Mary made us feel we were in good hands while everything was uncertain. She kept checking on us, making sure we were okay, and helping us find taxis, Uber, whatever we needed. The rooms were super clean, and everyone was really friendly and helpful. It’s also a short drive into the park. We’ll definitely be back next year. See you then! (Side note: check out The oak room)
