Sept 2020. I'm grateful we were approved, but this unit seems suitable only for one person, or maybe a couple sharing the same twin bed. I have a teenage boy, so where is he supposed to sleep, in the tub? It’s a one-bedroom unit with room for just one twin bed. The kitchen has the smallest fridge, not even a medium-sized one, no stove or oven, and no microwave, just a hot plate. The news makes it look like this would be better living, but someone from the media should check the place now. This isn’t right.

If you’re short on money for a nice hotel or need somewhere to stay for a week or longer, this place is okay for what it costs. It’s cheap, not luxurious, and you can stay as a weekly guest for about a month. Compared with the SROs in SF, it’s great. The Empyrean Towers is clean, the management mostly leaves you alone, and it’s centrally located in Oakland, outside one of the city’s bad areas. Some residents and guests seem physically or mentally disabled, and there are also young g's in the building. At times things can get obnoxious. Someone even wrote "we will kill you" on the property. I checked out the same day I saw that and hope everyone will be all right.

I was extremely disappointed. I got a room on the fifth floor but wasn’t allowed to use the elevators. The doorknob was broken, and much of the furniture was broken too. The managers were never available, and good luck reaching them by phone. This place feels like a scam.

😢 They say this is for low-income families, LOL. The toy kitchenette in a kid’s playset looks more like a real kitchen than what they have here.
