Dunes Suites Oceanfront

We had a beach view and balcony, though it rained all weekend. The weather was the only real downside, and we still enjoyed our time in the area. The hotel is older, so things aren't pristine, but our room was clean and had no issues. We stayed three nights; the beds were comfortable, although they were full size rather than the queen size described. We'd stay here again.

We'd enjoyed many stays here over more than 15 years, first as the Dunes and now as a Hilton property, but this week was a mess. Some facilities were dirty or neglected, and others weren't working. There was no pool or exercise room, the pizza place never opened, and the restaurant opened late. I couldn't reach the front desk from the room by phone despite trying several times. It's a shame, because this used to be a great property and we enjoyed our visits. Hilton has let it go to rot. We won't return. Don't go!

For $598 for two nights in September, we expected a much better room. The first one wasn't truly ocean front: it looked out at a big dune and a cell phone tower, with a bright streetlight shining right into the window. We asked the front desk and were moved to the other side of the building, which did have a proper ocean view. But cleanliness there fell short too. The shower curtain had hair on it, toilet paper was stuffed into the door peephole, and the carpet was sticky and sandy. The kitchen tile needed a deep clean, with years of residue visible, and the coffee pot was dusty and moldy. We won't book here again.

Morning sun came straight through the blinds in our oceanfront room, with no curtains to block it, so sleeping in was hard. I also couldn't open the window because we were on the second floor and it didn't feel safe. The A/C wasn't working well, so the room got hot and I slept poorly during our weekend getaway. I asked for a late checkout to get more sleep but was told no. At exactly 10:50am, with checkout at 11am, the hotel called to remind me to leave. I felt practically kicked out, especially since this was the off season. I can't imagine how it would be during peak season.
