Ocean Manor Inn

The hotel is less than a block from the boardwalk, yet the property feels quiet and tucked away. Our family of four had enough storage, comfortable beds, clean and well-maintained rooms, and AC that worked well. The TV had loads of kids’ shows I didn’t even know existed, including old-school Sonic. We ate breakfast on the terrace at the tables and chairs. The clean pool ranges from 3 to 5 feet deep, with a smaller area for jets. There are bathrooms and a little eating area, and ivy over the fences makes the space feel secluded despite the nearby buildings. One staff member came out with ice pops for the kids, a thoughtful gesture, thank you. My only complaint is the $30 charge for a pack 'n play. We called in advance, but no one mentioned the cost, and it was left off the reservation. Most hotels provide one free, so I put it down to a one-off miscommunication.

The location is lovely, just one block from the beach, and the staff were very friendly. 1100 Ocean Manor was originally a boarding house for young women who worked at a large hotel across the street in the 1920s, and it’s now over 100 years old. We were told renovations are underway. The Manor was very clean, though one of the two beds had a very soft mattress.

We were on the top floor, and the balcony was a lovely surprise. You could hear the ocean waves from there. I loved it, and everything was very clean.

We came from four hours away and left without staying, disputing the charge with our bank and reporting it to hotels.com. The owner was rude and difficult to reach, and with it being off season there were no employees, front desk, or reception to help. On arrival, she gave us the wrong room and didn’t apologize or seem concerned. She came across as condescending and didn’t understand that guests should feel welcome. The alternative was the only other room she said was available, but it didn’t match the photos or layout description at all. We had reserved two beds and what looked like a private balcony. She said there’d be no refund if we didn’t take the other room, and that we had to deal with the third party, though I feel the owner is still responsible. The room had freezing air coming from the vents, with no thermostat or way to adjust it, and no one responded. The door’s lock was completely broken, so we felt unsafe. We left feeling uncomfortable and out our money.
