Quality Inn Boardwalk

The room's wet, musty smell lingered even with a dehumidifier, and the floors were so dirty that our socks turned black almost right away. The shower kept leaking and never shut off fully. I wouldn't rent this room out until those problems were fixed. We'd stay at Quality Inn again, but in a proper room. We'd originally been set to stay at Quality Inn Oceanfront, then switched to the Boardwalk because we wanted that location. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and we appreciated that they found us their only remaining room. It's right on the boardwalk, which is a fantastic spot.

We've made this our vacation spot down here for the third year, and every stay has been great. The view is lovely, the rooms are very clean, and the staff are friendly. There are two outdoor pools plus an indoor pool and hot tub.

I hate complaining, but I love staying here when I get the right room, and these rooms need attention. I come every year and just checked out. There was mold, water-stained walls and ceiling, rusty appliances, and poor or no air conditioning. The first hour alone meant three calls to maintenance. The toilet's flush chain was rusted and broke on the first use. The stove burners weren't connected, a simple fix, but we didn't know how to handle it and didn't want to call again. Later we realized the air conditioner wasn't working. The room got hot and muggy; we wondered why there was a dehumidifier, then quickly found out. Changing the thermostat did nothing, and the unit gave no cool air. We turned on the dehumidifier, but two hours later the room had climbed from 75 to 84. Then we realized it was pumping out heat while trying to clear the humidity. I had no energy to complain again, so I hoped it wouldn't be too bad. We slept terribly the first night and bought two fans at CVS the next day, figuring the hotel couldn't help, especially with no rooms available. The location and atmosphere are lovely, and staff are helpful and pleasant. I'm not trying to beat anyone up with this review. I just know more can be done for guests to be comfortable in the lower-priced rooms, which I assume these were.

The location is great, the hotel is clean, the pools are great, and free use of the washer and dryer was a plus. The people working there were friendly. But we were in room 510, and it smelled of mold as soon as we walked in. At first we thought it might just be from the room being closed up. By day three, all of us were sick. Walmart's pharmacy helped as best they could. The awful smell seemed to come from the air conditioner, and the screen door was covered in black mold. On day five we left for home sick, including our two young kids. People at the pool said they were having the same issues. I would've rated it five stars without this problem, but I can't recommend staying there.
