Moby Dick Hotel

The Moby Dick Hotel gave me the best sleep I’ve had in years. I slept six straight hours without waking up, which I told the owner the next morning. I ended up in Ocean Park WA unexpectedly and far from home, and if that happens again, I’d return to the MDH without hesitation. It has a lovely mix of chain-hotel confidence in the amenities and the cozy character of a small bed and breakfast. The grounds and building feel turn-of-the-century, with antiques and a record player, and no TVs. The technology and check-in process are modern, though. The owner called soon after I booked through Expedia to thank me and make sure I’d received the confirmation and property details. She explained there’d be no food during the off-season, so I could plan ahead. I had a few questions later and she was available right away each time. Top-notch service from her and the staff. If you need a safe, comfortable, restful night while in ocean park, choose the Moby Dick Hotel.

We had a really nice stay, thanks in large part to the owners, who were extremely welcoming and hospitable. Renovations are underway, but the noise wasn’t a big issue for us. They didn’t do construction over the weekend.

Our room was clean, but very small, and we had an outside entrance. There were no chairs in the room, and although there was a hair dryer in the bathroom, there wasn’t an outlet in there. The bathroom was shared. There’s a common area where you can make your own coffee, but this is like a bed and breakfast without the breakfast. For the price, I wouldn’t stay again.

The staff made us feel welcome right away, almost like old friends, and the hotel looks lovely. It’s a 1930s building, now being renovated to modernize the facilities while keeping its charm and history. The rooms are on the small side, and there’s only one shower in the building. The inlet view is breathtaking.
