Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel

I spent two nights in Room #1118 listening to the elevator run. It’s right beside the room, and every stop and mechanical noise carried through all night. I chose Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel (1 Broadway Avenue, Oklahoma City) while attending the Nation’s Best Sports Convention because I’m a Marriott Bonvoy member and expected the usual comfort and professionalism. Instead, I left deeply disappointed. I arrived at 11:42 AM, before the 3:00 PM check-in time. The gentleman at the desk offered me a room that was already ready, next to the elevator. I thought he was doing me a favor and appreciated it, but the noise turned that offer into two sleepless nights. He should have mentioned that the room might be noisy so I could decide for myself. It’s upsetting to feel helped, then find out about the downside afterward. I didn’t raise it at the time, since I had accepted the room too. Still, each morning the gentleman who checked me in avoided eye contact when he saw me. The whole situation could have been handled more honestly and considerately. I expect comfort, transparency, and real hospitality as a Marriott Bonvoy member. I hope the team explains the trade-off to future guests offered early check-in rooms in noisy spots.

The location was good and the staff were friendly, but we probably wouldn’t return. The dog relief area had waste bags and a bin, which we appreciated, but the grass was covered in dog poop. We always clean up after our own dog and know not every owner does, so I don’t blame the hotel for that. Still, the area is on hotel property and should be cleaned now and then. We couldn’t find a cleaner patch around the hotel either. There was dog waste, cigarette butts, and plastic trash in most spots. We also found a serious problem with the accessible bathroom. From the fold-down bench, a solo guest with a disability can’t reach the faucet or handheld shower. You’d need an eight-foot arm, or another person to help, which defeats the point of an accessible room. For a 4-star Sheraton, we expected more basics. There were just two packs of makeup remover wipes, no shower cap, and we could only dream of bathrobes and slippers. The missing in-room safe, scratched headboards, and damp-feeling carpet were smaller issues.

The gym is great, the desk staff were friendly, and the room had good sound insulation. The AC worked well, the hot shower had good pressure, and the towels were super soft. There’s a full-size mirror and a refrigerator, but no microwave. It’s two full-size beds, not queens, and the room lights each need to be switched on separately. The bathroom has no vent, and the mirror fogs up. Wi-Fi was very poor and failed about half the time. You can’t mirror your phone to the TV, which has limited apps. The beds were awful, sagging in the middle so you could feel the springs. The restaurant was terrible. I had wings and fries, maybe 3 out of 10. The bar had no energy. The $20 breakfast buffet was only okay, and I’ve had better free breakfasts. The coffee was terrible. Parking in the garage was $10 a night.

The room was lovely, with a firm bed and a nice shower, and the staff were all excellent. Breakfast was especially good, with eggs made to order, and the facilities had everything we needed. It was a little expensive, but I felt it was worth it.
