Super 8 by Wyndham Old Saybrook

I booked a king room but, because I wanted to get into a room sooner, accepted a twin instead. When I pointed out that it wasn’t what I’d booked, they said I’d gotten the room I wanted. I explained I was making a compromise even though I hadn’t wanted that change. The room was only so-so clean, not professionally cleaned, and the hotel didn’t offer anything for breakfast except coffee, despite breakfast items being listed on third-party booking sites. The receptionist was pleasant to speak with, but the stay was still a bad experience. I got a good deal for one night, yet when I arrived at 6 p.m. the room wasn’t ready and they said it would take some time. I went to the beach and came back at 8:30, only to get the same response. They offered a 50% refund and were willing to refund me, but after all that trouble, especially traveling with family and a child, who wants to be searching for another room at 9 p.m. that might cost more?

The room smelled strongly of weed and stale cigarettes, with holes in the walls, dead lamp outlets, and lights that either didn’t work or kept flickering. The refrigerator rattled loudly all night, and the toilet kept draining and running. There was also an unsecured attic access panel in the closet, held shut with a jammed Bic pen. The parking lot was a mess, with several broken-down vehicles left around, including two on flat tires. The Wi-Fi situation was a serious cybersecurity concern: more than half a dozen different SSIDs were broadcasting as if they were the hotel’s official network, with no signs showing which one was real. I had to find the manager to ask which to use. Anyone staying should make sure to use a VPN. I can’t understand how Wyndham certifies or sponsors this place. It’s a safety hazard and a disaster, and Wyndham should reconsider the motel’s franchise status. A complete dump. Wyndham needs to pull their name immediately! Avoid it. They should be ashamed to have their logo on the sign.

The woman at the front desk is the sweetest and does her best to meet guests’ needs. The service I get here is fantastic, and I’d always choose to stay here because of her.

The Indian lady at the front is one of the friendliest people I’ve met in a hotel lobby. She’s always helping me with whatever I need. The rooms are very clean, and I strongly recommend this place.
