The room had some problems even though it was fairly clean, had fresh towels, and working appliances, including the refrigerator. I booked a double queen room for three nights. The shower floor was clearly dirty and looked painted over; the curtain had brown stains, and there was rust around the plug. The main window curtains felt cheap and had holes. One large piece had melted onto the window, probably because a previous occupant turned up the heater. I did see some shady-looking people staying in my building, though I didn’t run into anyone. I was glad not to find any of the cockroaches mentioned in other reviews. There were good things too. Staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive, and answered nearly all my questions and concerns. Room service did a good job cleaning. The pool looked clean and well maintained, and there’s a 24/7 IHOP. Most Disney World parks and resorts are about 15 minutes away, so it works for a few nights if you’re trying to save money. It needs improvement, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Getting around was convenient: the convention center is nearby, Sea World is about 5 minutes away, Universal Studios around 10, and Disney about 20. There are plenty of places to eat and a Publix grocery store just 2 minutes away. For the price, it’s not a bad motel. The room was pretty clean, and there were plenty of towels for me. Bring your own bodywash, soap, and shampoo/conditioner, since they only provide a tiny bar of soap and a tiny bottle of shampoo/conditioner. My only issue was the late check-in. My flight landed at 11 pm, and after picking up a rental car I got there at midnight. The lobby is open only from 7 am to 11 pm, and the after-hours clerk wasn’t there. A sign said the check-in clerk would return in five minutes, but after 20 minutes I called and could only hear the phone ringing in the lobby. I tried the Days Inn 800 number after 30 minutes, and they put me on hold to call the hotel, where the phone kept ringing. Finally, someone arrived about 40 minutes in, and I checked in close to 1 am. The clerk was friendly and mildly apologetic.

We had to move our belongings from Room 239 to Room 245 after reporting the condition of the first room, but the second room had similar problems. By then we were physically and mentally exhausted, with no energy left to keep changing rooms. The whole situation caused major inconvenience, discomfort, and distress. I’m asking for a formal review and appropriate compensation, and strongly recommend immediate attention to housekeeping and maintenance so future guests don’t face the same conditions. In Room 239, roaches were crawling on the wall behind the bed toward the mirror. The pillowcases, though meant to be white, were visibly dirty and brown. The curtains had holes, and the old carpet was stained and smelled foul. The bathtub was dirty and stained, and there was no bar of soap for washing our hands. We had to go out and buy cleaning spray and disinfectant wipes to clean the surfaces ourselves. These conditions fell far below reasonable cleanliness and hospitality standards.

Being able to walk straight back to my room from the conference center mattered more to me than fancy amenities. The other available hotels were about a 20-minute drive away. Walgreens, 7 Eleven, McDonalds, and IHOP are close enough to walk to, the grounds looked cared for, and Jeanette and Isabella were friendly and helpful. The room did look tired, with cheap-looking materials and some rough repairs. Cleanliness was mixed: the floors felt grimy, and I found hair in the bathroom corners and on the lavatory. The bed was comfortable and smelled clean, and the shower was nice and hot. Bring your own soap and shampoo, the supplied ones weren't great. This is a Days Inn, and my colleagues gave me a hard time for choosing it over our usual Marriott or Hilton for an OCCC conference. They warned me about bed bugs and dirt. I didn't see any bed bugs. I've stayed at worse Marriott hotels. If you mostly need somewhere to sleep and shower while you're out all day, it may suit you. It's not for everyone, so weigh the convenience against the shortcomings.
