Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Orlando Airport

The room met my basic needs for a one-night stop near the Orlando airport before continuing to Lady Lake, FL the next morning. I was arriving after 10:00 PM. The front desk staff were pleasant enough, and Jhan was courteous with a nice smile. But the website says there’s an airport shuttle, and there isn’t one. The pool was also closed for a reason I never learned. As soon as I entered the room, a strong moldy smell hit me, and the HVAC smelled moldy too. A softball-sized pile of ceiling debris had fallen over a floor lamp in the corner. The ceiling near the front window looked wet and crumbling. Wall sections by the bathroom had been cut out and replaced without being spackled, and there were at least four fist-sized holes punched in the bathroom wall. I wondered whether they were from someone on drugs before domestic violence, but that’s just what it looked like to me. I’d avoid this property.

Renovations were underway, which I only found out when I arrived, but they didn’t put me off staying. The room was clean, the location was very good, and the price felt fair. The bathroom was my one complaint: it’s very small, and the toilet paper didn’t have a holder, which struck me as odd but wasn’t a major issue. The toilet kept running until I turned the valve off, waited a bit, and turned it back on.

The rooms are nice, and so is the pool area, but the building’s appearance put me off. It’s dark and doesn’t feel welcoming when you pull up. There’s been construction going on for a long time, and from what I saw, the place looks run down, almost like an apartment complex where nobody knows what they’re doing. I’ve been told renovations are happening and things have been getting better, but I didn’t see that. They need to improve the curb appeal.

Jaqueline deserves a big shout-out for being friendly and professional. The hotel’s key system was down when I arrived, so she walked me to my room and unlocked the door. Several guests were upset about the inconvenience, but she treated each of them with the same calm professionalism. My room was clean, the property was well kept, and the other staff were friendly and professional too. It was a very nice stay.
