The room and grounds were nice enough, and the area is close to attractions and conference centers. We were attending Premiere Orlando and the drive was about five minutes. I hadn’t realized you had to pay to park as a hotel guest. I’ve since heard that’s common in bigger cities, but it wasn’t listed on the website and I hadn’t paid to park at other Double Tree locations. It was $38 a day, so keep that in mind when budgeting. Some amenities were available only on what the front desk called “busy days,” which I think meant Friday through Sunday. We also didn’t know there was an event at the hotel during our stay, because we were attending something at a different conference center. Check whether there’s an event scheduled. Parking was terrible during Spooky Empire: even paying $38 a day, we had to hunt for a spot, and if we found one, it could be across the complex. The first three days were rough, but parking was fine once the event left.
The room was clean with fresh sheets, the lobby looked great, and the front desk staff I met were very nice. The pools were the only amenities that looked clean and up to date. The table hockey was broken, and trash and leaves covered the putt-putt course. We chose Double Tree over other local hotels so the family could use the activities, but after looking around we decided we’d rather leave early than try any of the equipment or games. The rooms and activity areas were a big disappointment. I’ve always had great, clean, welcoming experiences at Double Tree, but this hotel was the opposite and I wouldn’t return. The rooms were horribly old and outdated, with loud AC, a toilet that wouldn’t flush fully, and bafflingly, no elevator access. I could manage the stairs, so when the lobby attendant asked if that was a problem, I said it wasn’t. But I can imagine how disappointing it would be for someone booking online in busy season, declining the $30 tower upgrade, then arriving late to a 1980s room with no elevator. I’d gladly have paid that $30 if I’d known how much it would change the stay. The amenities list shouldn’t mislead people. I only gave two stars because of the kind front desk staff, nice lobby, and fresh sheets. With my veteran discount, I paid almost $200 after the nearly $40 parking fee for a Motel 6 quality experience. If I’d paid more than $150 for the room, I’d have refused to stay and taken my family elsewhere. I was able to adjust my dates to get the best rate; without that, this same room would’ve cost over $300 a few days earlier, and at that price I’d have given it zero stars.
We’ve stayed at several hotels in Orlando over the years, from luxury resorts to simple places, while visiting the theme parks. This one has become our favorite for its atmosphere and value. We usually book the Epic package, which includes great perks, and after spending about five nights here with it, we’d recommend it. Matt at the front desk was incredibly helpful and kind, taking time to explain the benefits and answer our questions so check-in went smoothly. Nessa welcomed us with a huge smile and such a warm manner that we immediately felt welcome. Both were friendly and professional.
With 30 of us in town for our team’s volleyball tournament, we needed a place that could seat everyone together. The restaurant managed that easily, even in a busy season, and Mr. William Gomez handled the coordination well. Maria, Norma, and Perafan gave us outstanding table service. There were plenty of breakfast buffet choices for the whole group. I’d recommend the venue, especially for people coming to town for the Sunshine tournament.
We booked the $9 breakfast upgrade at Laguna, and it was absolutely worth it. The food went well beyond a typical hotel buffet, with hot options like salmon with capers, cheeses and meats, fresh fruit, an omelet bar, plantains, seasoned roasted tomatoes with cheese, beans and rice, and breakfast burritos. Service was quick and friendly, so we could get out to the theme parks without delay. Dinner there one night also exceeded our expectations, and Victoria was a sweet, attentive server who kept our water filled. The pool area was great, and the bartender was fast and friendly. The hotel, grounds, and rooms were spotless, and the beds were comfortable. From check-in on, every staff member made us feel well looked after. Matt was especially kind, helpful, and accommodating when he checked us in. We’ll definitely stay here again when we’re in the area.
