Motel 6 Orlando, FL - Winter Park

James, the General Manager, is always right there doing his job. He handles situations properly and works to keep the place safe and comfortable. The staff are kind, sweet, and greet people with smiles. I've lived here long enough to say I've never had a problem or felt unsafe. This place has become my home, and I don't use that lightly. Housekeeping works hard to clean the rooms and get them ready for check in. Anyone saying the rooms aren't up to par is mistaken. They're always making improvements, so I'd call it four stars across the board, even though James and the staff deserve five every day. I'll definitely keep coming back. Thanks to them for all they do.

A cockroach was on the lunch I'd set on the desk for me and my daughter, within an hour of bringing our things into the room. I called the office, and they offered a room change. I asked for the new key first so I could move directly, but they said I had to empty the current room before getting it. I'd already spent 30 minutes carrying our things up and down the stairs to the second floor, and would have had to load everything into the car again. When I asked whether the other room had been treated for bugs more recently, the woman on the phone hung up. Downstairs, they called the roach my “opinion” and said nobody before us had complained. The next room hadn't been treated more recently, either. I asked to cancel, and they said they'd charge me for the first night. When I asked how they could charge for a room unfit for guests, the woman at the register said she'd ask the manager. The manager, from the back, said, “she's paying for the first night.” They said my money would take 7 to 10 business days to return. I asked if they could refund it in cash since I had no way to get another hotel that week, but they said no. I left without knowing where my daughter and I would stay that night or the rest of the week. A family member lent us money for another room. Without them, we would have been homeless that week. The motel isn't kept in a hygienic condition, and instead of taking feedback, they keep money for service they didn't properly provide. Guests shouldn't have to sleep with pests because the hotel won't provide a sanitary room. They take no accountability, were unprofessional, and showed no integrity in how they handled this. I don't recommend taking a chance on this motel.

For $97, the room was overpriced, and the area felt sketchy. Roaches were crawling on the ceiling, floor, and bed frame, the in-room phone didn't work, and a crew was jackhammering the sidewalk outside my door at 9 in the morning. When I brought it up, the older front desk attendant with sandy brown hair and glasses said she only worked at the desk and knew nothing about it. She was rude and wouldn't look at the evidence I tried to show her. Skip this location.

For the price, I don't think you'll find a better place nearby. The rooms are clean, the staff are great, and they work hard to make the area look better. Whitney at the front desk and the GM are saints. 10/10, I'd recommend it.
