We spent some time at the beach and around the bonfire, then left for a hotel. Other guests told us everyone had cleared out because of bed bugs, and that the beds in the cabins had all been replaced the day before. They said the cabins hadn’t been properly cleaned before new people arrived. I asked the owner directly about the discarded mattresses and bugs, and he told me it wasn’t true. The owners are awful. Don’t waste your time here. If you want something similar, mai tiki is just up the road.

I hate leaving a bad review, but the owner still hasn’t gotten back to me, so I feel I need to share this. Friends and I booked a house for a weekend, then found out the next day that pets weren’t allowed. The website doesn’t mention that rule anywhere, so we had to cancel. It says cancellations get a 100% refund, which is why I wasn’t worried at first. When I asked for it, I got a brief reply saying they could refund us minus the processing fee. I pointed out both the full-refund policy and the missing pet information, and said it didn’t seem right to make us pay the transaction fee for an issue caused by incomplete details on their end. This was last Thursday. I’ve called and texted several times since and heard nothing.

The beach, gorgeous water, and activities are the reason to come here. We made friends we hope to see many times over the years. For the price, you get what you’d expect, with a great location. It isn’t a four-star hotel, and the rooms are old and imperfect, though the beds and couches are really comfortable and the AC works great. There are enough parking spaces now. The new owners are trying to fix things up, so give them some leeway while there’s a mess. Bring your own towels and throw away your trash. Firewood is provided, and they text you the entry code when you arrive. Read this before you go and you’ll have a great time.

The beach was the only good part of our stay. We left a day early because our cottage was in such rough shape, and I’ve also texted and emailed Aloha Beach Club with my concerns. It’s been two weeks with no reply. The cottage was dirty, run down, and full of bugs. Spiders and flies were inside, and keeping them out was hard with duct tape on the windows. The sliding door wouldn’t lock without a piece of wood propping it shut. One bedroom dresser was missing a drawer, the mattresses were very old, and the couch was uncomfortable. There were exposed wires on the power strip for the TV and on the furnace cord. The shower drain wasn’t attached and came off. The kitchen chairs were stained, and new ones from Goodwill would surely be in better shape for $5 apiece. The AC barely existed. I wish I didn’t have to leave this feedback, but it wasn’t a nice stay.

I’ve been coming here for over 10 years, through a couple of ownership changes, and it remains one of my favorite places. I look forward to it every year and always hate leaving, though it’s nice knowing we’ll be back next year. The new owners seem committed to fixing the things that need attention. They’ve redone the beautiful boardwalk and did plumbing work that made a real difference in the cabin I rent. I stay in cabin number five, the big yellow one out front. It could use a little TLC, but they’re working hard to update it. The service is impeccable too. One room was missing something, I contacted the owners, and it arrived the next day. The beach is always clean, and they provide firewood for nightly fires. Thanks again for a wonderful vacation. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s new next year!
