Quality Inn

The second room had a tub that wouldn’t drain, and its door wouldn’t lock, so we used the bar on it. We weren’t pleased, and it was a waste of our money. The pool had been emptied, the first room was under construction, and the second needed construction too. That first room had its furniture pushed into the center and drywall dust everywhere. They sent me back to the desk to get another room, then gave us one on the outside of the hotel, upstairs on the other side of the building. I carried all the luggage back up there, and my husband arrived as I was getting in. He showered, but the tub wouldn’t drain. He works in construction, and I still had to shower, so I got in and out quickly. The stay had been nice the previous time, when my husband and I booked a cheap night away. I’d reserved near the pool this time, but at check-in they told me it was closed for the day.

The linens and bedspread were good, the truck parking was excellent, and the basic continental breakfast was fresh at 8am. The check-in staff were very pleasant and bubbly, and they mentioned some rooms were being renovated. But I couldn’t get the room I requested, and the handicapped rooms were unavailable. The wash basin looked like dried puke with black hairs stuck in it, and the water wouldn’t drain. The fridge-freezer didn’t work, and Roberto the roach ran across the table.

We were charged $202 for a very poor room, and I eventually had to call corporate to try to get our money back. The next morning, while we were trying to get a refund, our card was charged again. The front desk girl had been polite when we called right away about the tub not draining and the dirty bathroom door and walls. She said she’d try to refund us, but didn’t seem properly trained. The manager wasn’t there, so we waited over an hour for her to arrive, even though she lived five minutes down the road. She was rude, swore at us, and threatened to call police. She didn’t refund us or apologize for the room. I was told she’s always at the connected bar, and she seemed hungover, so maybe that was why, but I can’t say for sure. Other guests checking in were complaining about their rooms too. Quality Hotels are usually very nice, but this was our worst experience with them. I hope the money gets refunded soon. If you want a nice room, go to the new ones in downtown Owensboro. They cost about the same and are much, much nicer.

Breakfast was great, with biscuits and gravy, cereal, pastries, oatmeal, waffles, and fruit. You can’t beat that range of options. The pool is small, but the kids didn’t seem to mind. I can’t lie, we only stayed because they offered us a discounted room, and the air wasn’t working. Still, after two nights here, this is where we’ll stay next time we visit family in Owensboro. I’m not sure why the ratings are so low.
