Del Playa Inn Oxnard

The whole place smelled like raw sewage as soon as we pulled in, and they weren't willing to help when our room flooded. The owner got aggressive and yelled at us, saying it was our fault. I have a video of him screaming in my face when I asked him to come see the flood. He said anything could happen, like an earthquake. This was a horrible stay, and there are better motels around the corner for the same price. Don't stay here.

For $125 a night, this wasn't worth it. The rooms have been remodeled, but it looked like an unprofessional paint job and a new fridge; the beds and furniture are still outdated. I found the "NO GUESTS" sign in the front office tacky, especially after being asked several times whether only two of us were staying, even though I kept saying yes. Customer service wasn't great either. I'm fine with a family business, but don't yell at family members in the back room about what to do. The motel down the street was packed, while this place was dead.

I paid for a night today, but the woman at the front office wouldn't return my change or ID. I went to look at the room, which was dark, moldy, dusty, and full of roaches. I was there for only a few minutes and didn't want to stay, so I asked her to at least return my change and government ID. She said no refund. When I explained I just wanted the change from what I'd paid for the night and my ID back, she got mad and asked, "why did your girlfriend not show up". I told her I simply didn't want to stay and would find somewhere else. I left without a refund.

There's a shopping area right next door with Mexican-style food, a barber shop, and a laundromat, plus a bakery with awesome breakfast burritos. I love them. The rooms are clean and everything works well. It's a great spot for migrant field workers and truckers who need a safe, open place to park. Warning: anyone uncomfortable around minorities may not feel at ease here.
