Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott San Francisco Pacifica

Room 212 at Fairfield by Marriott Pacifica was the worst hotel stay I've had in 15 years, and my worst experience at a Marriott. I checked in on 12/17, and the problems started as soon as I entered. The room smelled bad, and the Wi-Fi and cellular signal were basically unusable. I couldn't work, use basic apps, or even order dinner. I reported everything right away, but the on-site manager offered no reasonable fix. The woman at the lobby desk kept insisting on checking my phone and setting up Wi-Fi, even though I'd tried that a couple of times already. I still couldn't load Google or any other site, and then the manager claimed I had refused help. That's simply not true. The room wasn't livable, so I didn't stay there at all. This fell short on comfort, cleanliness, and service, and I'd avoid the hotel unless Marriott corporate addresses these serious management and service problems.

The covered, well-lit parking lot was a real plus, and the elevator from the lot needed a room key. As a woman traveling alone for work, I appreciated feeling more secure. My room was at the far end of the hall and had a huge amount of space, including a couch and second TV where I could eat my late dinner more comfortably than in the standard rooms. The bathroom and room were clean and on brand, though the water pressure could've been better. I slept like a Disney princess to the sound of the ocean, with a lovely view of Rockaway Beach. I also appreciated the dark makeup washcloth. I was there for work and the location was handy: about 20 minutes from downtown San Francisco and 10 from a client. I got a more business-friendly rate by prepaying, though my schedule changes too much for me to do that often. Thanks for the ocean-view upgrade with my higher Bonvoy status. Nearby restaurants close early, but there are still places to get food a short drive away, plus Uber Eats. The cute beach town was just a block away, and the hotel has beach access, so I would've liked to explore and walk along the beach if I hadn't been working. There was a large open seating area on the second floor by the elevator, with what looked like a mezzanine above it. It could be a handy meeting spot for a family event, which you don't see often.

The place was clean and pleasant, but a running dryer woke me at 6 a.m. The noise lasted about an hour, and the front desk couldn't say where it came from. Breakfast was just okay.

We used this modern, well-equipped, very clean hotel as a base for San Francisco and for visits to the beach. Breakfast was really good, with plenty of choices and something different each day, which I appreciated. They also have EV chargers. Fantastic stay, and we'd come back if we can make it work.
