The location was a plus, with the beach within walking distance, and the room was quite large. We booked through Airbnb, since this “hotel” apparently isn’t a hotel anymore. It was an okay place for our first South Padre Island trip, but I probably wouldn’t pick it again. The room was tiny and sparse, with a bed, bathroom, TV, microwave, refrigerator, and a tiny table, about 1 by 3 feet, with two flimsy bar stools. There was a coffee maker but no cups, even disposable ones, and no sink in the kitchen area. I’d have liked a small couch or a couple of chairs for watching TV, since the TV was small and far from the bed. The bed was a short King, too short for me at 5'5", and definitely too short for my husband, who’s over 6 feet. The AC cooled the room enough, but the unit inside was really loud. There was no bathroom exhaust fan, so it got humid after showers. With no curtains, the room stayed bright day and night, which made sleeping in on vacation difficult.
I wouldn’t recommend this place. Check-in was supposed to be at 3pm, but the room wasn’t ready until 6pm. I’m glad it had been cleaned, but there was so much bleach smell that my eyes and skin got irritated. We couldn’t stand it and had to turn in the key. The receptionist gave great customer service, but the room spoke for itself. The pool was extremely dirty and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in over a month. The hotel chose not to refund our money. I’m sharing pictures and this warning so people know what to expect.
The staff were wonderful and helpful at check-in and check-out, but parking out front was full and blocked by other customers, so I had to park down the street and walk to the office. The Wi-Fi was free but too slow to use, and the price didn’t match the quality. The AC wasn’t working, the place was dated, and I had to kill a rather large cockroach. There were two full-sized beds in my room, plus a refrigerator and electric stove. You have to bring your own cooking and eating supplies, since using theirs costs $30. There’s one parking spot per room. The outdoor pool was right in front, so we clearly heard kids screaming and playing. It was fairly close to the beach, but not directly on it, which was what we wanted. There was also an outdoor fish-cleaning station in case you caught fish and wanted to cook them.
The beds were clean and comfortable, the room seemed fairly clean, and the staff were very nice. The pool was decent, but we only stayed one night. The bathroom needs remodeling, and I couldn’t tell if the tub was dirty or stained. There was a dead bug by the toilet, and the towels had orange, green, and yellow bleach stains. The kitchen area looked a little dingy. The worst part was finding old, moldy coffee grounds under the coffee maker lid when I went to make coffee. Absolutely unacceptable.
The staff were amazing, especially Katrina, who was down to earth, attentive, and filled us in on local information. I also loved the office hours, and they accommodated changes to our stay without a problem. It’s a small property, so it stays nice and clean, and it’s pet friendly. The pool never closes, which is a huge selling point when you have kids. The beach is less than a minute’s walk away, with a convenient shower right outside. We stayed five nights and six days.
