I used to look forward to coming back to South Padre, where my family lived in Port Isabel for many years. We visit the island most years with a big group of friends and family, renting places and meeting up at the beach, clubs, and restaurants. We fish, buy fancy coffees, jewelry, and clothes. After this stay, that welcome feeling is gone. Next year we're going to Port Aransas. If I return to South Padre, I won't stay at Suntide II or book through Padre Island Rentals. We've stayed at Suntide II many times, in different condos, and had always enjoyed the beautiful, well-appointed units and great views. We usually come in the off season for the nicer prices and weather, and rent the largest condo because there are 13 in our family, with 9 or 10 of us typically staying there. This trip, in October 2025, was a real disappointment because of communication, accessibility, and parking problems. I use a cane or walker, and my mobility has gotten worse since our last visit about two years ago. There are only two disabled parking spaces for the whole building, and they were almost always occupied. I couldn't walk up the steep driveway, which greatly limited my ability to drive myself. The pool area was also inaccessible: its steps were too steep and there was no other entrance. I couldn't join my grandchildren at the pool, my husband at the hot tub, or sit and read on the loungers. The beach can't be reached accessibly from this complex either, though nearby public beach access points are available. The parking rule says one vehicle per condo. On earlier visits they had given us two passes, since the lot was never full. This time there were six adults and four children in three cars. One family with an older child parked on the street. My car was as close to the entrance as we could get it, and my daughter, who had a baby and another young child, parked off to the side, farther from the entrance. I went to the onsite office several times to ask for another permit as I had before, but nobody was there. On the third night, my daughter's car was towed in the middle of the night without notice. Yes, there were towing signs, but they'd been there on our earlier visits and the rule had never been enforced. The lot was more than half empty. Towing a car with a baby seat in it from a half-full lot, in a way that meant at least one night of storage fees, felt like a money-grabbing scheme. Getting the car back cost $275, and the towing yard didn't open in time for my granddaughter to make it to a wedding in McAllen, where she was supposed to be a flower girl. The listing is on VRBO, but the rental contract is with Padre Island Rentals. I have a separate review for PI rentals about the building being inaccessible, their poor communication, and rude interactions.
