The Florence II

After eight years of trips here, this stay will be our last. The complex is aging, the refrigerator was filthy, the furniture was old and uncomfortable, and the bathrooms were old too. At $2,000 for four nights, the beach proximity is the only plus. Next time, I'll spend my money on a better property.

We came from out of state for a South Padre Island vacation, but found bedbugs when we arrived at our condo. The island was completely booked, so we had no choice but to leave that same day and head home early. Our whole vacation was ruined, and we spent a lot of money for no vacation at all. I'm incredibly disappointed the condo wasn't properly inspected before we arrived. Bedbugs should have been caught and dealt with.

We've rented the same condo, #302, since 2013, but something has gone wrong every year for the last three. This time, the smoke alarm kept beeping and had to be removed, the garbage disposal didn't work and smelled bad, and the microwave was broken. The bathroom door handle came off, and the silverware drawer handle was broken. In previous years, we've also had trouble opening and closing the patio doors.

Never again. Cockroaches were crawling onto our food. My daughter yelled that one was crossing the wall, and I ran to take a picture. When I came back, a roach was coming off our hamburger. I've been to SPI many times and never had anything like this. The rental company told me to get a hotel and said they'd reimburse me and move us to a completely different condo area. The location is great, but other places are too, without cockroaches. I highly recommend SAIA II, it's just wonderful, with a heated pool and hot tub.
