A good alternative to another boring hotel, and reasonably priced. These are two lovely historic houses, over 100 years old, with several private bedroom and bathroom suites that lock, plus comfortable shared spaces. It’s in a safe neighborhood next to the police station, and convenient to downtown Paducah.

James was wonderful. Check-in was quick, he gave us tips about food, and even walked us to our room. It was spacious, with a smaller room containing a desk that worked perfectly for using a laptop. The bed was comfortable, the tub was amazing, and the whole place felt welcoming and comfortable. Thanks for a great stay.

We came through Paducah on a road trip hoping for comfortable beds and a chance to relax. James was helpful and friendly when handling our reservation and check-in. The whirlpool tub in our room was a nice surprise, even though there wasn’t a hot tub, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was clean, and the antique furniture gave it a distinctive feel, though the decor mixed pieces from different eras. Some things were a little awkward: we couldn’t adjust the temperature, but the ceiling fan helped, and the sink had very little counter space. There was no bathroom hook for the hand towel. We could hear conversations from the common area through the thin walls. The doors also lacked deadbolts, which stood out with the keyless entry system. It’s about 10 minutes from the highway, which was fine for us. Street parking could be tight when busy, but the shared driveway works for loading and unloading. The nearby Dollar General was handy. We were comfortable, though the quirks and the door lock concern kept it from being perfect. It may suit someone who likes a distinctive place and doesn’t mind its oddities.

James made us feel like family, and the hotel itself turned out to be a real gem. We were driving to our vacation destination, reached Paducah well past midnight, and needed somewhere to sleep. Most places we wanted were booked, so we were deciding between Super 8 and 1895 Washington Hotel. After looking at the pictures, we chose 1895 Washington Hotel, and I’m so glad we did. James answered when we called close to 1 a.m. and said there was one room left with two Queen sizes bed. The police station was about 300FT away, which helped us feel safe. We were unfamiliar with the area and circling around looking for parking when James spotted us and called with directions. He welcomed us with a big smile, got us checked in quickly, and patiently explained what we needed to know. Our room was upstairs in the other house beside the main one, also a lovely vintage building. The room was extremely clean, with no dust anywhere, even on the handmade decorative cloth towel on the wall. I’ve stayed in plenty of budget hotels when all I needed was a bed, and this was the cleanest one I’ve experienced. Usually we keep our socks on indoors, but I could walk barefoot without getting dirty feet. The bathroom was clean too. The vintage sink wasn’t in perfect condition, but it added to the old-time feel. The tub had some stains from dye left by customers who had dyed their hair recently, though we knew that wasn’t dirt. The toilet was extremely clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and all of us slept well. Our boy asked me to be sure to mention how comfortable the bed was as soon as he got up. Both houses have kitchens with plates and silverware, so guests can cook. We enjoyed the stay so much. I wish we’d had more time for breakfast, and we’re thinking of stopping here again on the way home. We like supporting small house-style hotels instead of big chains that don’t care about you as much. If you want a clean, budget-friendly, historic vintage hotel with great service, Paducah 1895 Washington is the place.

James was such a gracious host, and he served us a lovely breakfast in the morning. The hotel has old-time charm with modern comforts, and our bed was comfortable and everything was clean. We had dinner in town, then walked to the river, where we saw a full rainbow and an even better view at sunset. A local resident kindly explained how the barges and tugs work as we watched them pass. We’ll be glad to stay here again when we return to Paducah.
