Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Palm Desert

Friendly, helpful staff, and the place was clean and comfortable. The noise is what keeps this from being five stars. The rooms are poorly insulated, so normal walking and conversation carry right through. You can hear footsteps in the hall or upstairs, even when no one is running or stomping, and ordinary conversations through the walls.

Room 311 was a terrible location, directly across from the elevator, and extremely noisy. The room itself was otherwise nice, but the bathroom was being remodeled: there was a white smeary substance all over the brown wallpaper, or what I assume was wallpaper. The mirror lighting is dim at best. If you like candlelight for putting on makeup, this is your place. I asked for extra towels through the app's chat before we arrived, during check-in. I got a message saying they'd be delivered, then asked again after checking in. The request stayed “in the works” all yesterday and changed to “done” this morning, but the towels never arrived. If the hotel offers requests through chat and the app, it needs to follow through. Otherwise, I would've just called. We stayed here for a concert.

I appreciated the front desk staff who welcomed us at check-in and tried to get the loud air conditioner fixed. The location was just okay, the rooms adequate, and the walls paper thin. The internet was patchy even in the lobby, and the bathroom lighting was almost nonexistent. As a loyal Marriott customer, I wanted to like this hotel, but overall it just isn't up to Marriott standards.

Clean, nice hotel in a good location and safe neighborhood, with free parking and a good breakfast. But the room walls are paper thin. We could hear everything next door, from someone's TV playing to their conversation.
