A call from a timeshare company has me stewing again about how we were treated at The Adriatic Villa in Palm Springs. It's a dump, fit only for cockroaches, and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. When I arrived at our timeshare in December 2918, someone gave me the wrong gate key, leaving me locked out for 30 minutes while I unloaded my car. The TV didn't work, and the room was dusty and smelly. There was just one spoon in the drawer, no can opener, corkscrew, or coffee pot. There was nobody around, and both the office and restaurant were closed during my stay. The pool wasn't heated, and I left two days early because the place became unbearable. On top of that, the new owners raised the maintenance fee from $395 to $595. For what?

The place is a quiet refuge after a day of Palm Springs activities, with a wonderfully laid-back vibe. It's a vintage 50s-era Palm Springs hotel, with two pools, hot tubs, and shady cabanas to escape the desert sun. Our room was spacious, with a full kitchen, separate eating area, and updated bathroom. The views were spectacular and the location convenient. Management were gracious, helpful, and attentive. There's coffee service on site for guests, and at least four outstanding brunch and supper restaurants are within walking distance.

The dinner was a great deal: my prime rib was just right, and it came with a generous salad and garlic toast. I could have picked soup, mini loaf corn, or banana bread instead. With a glass of wine, the total was only $29.00. I’d heard about BILLY REEDS restaurant near The Adriatic Villas resort, so I stopped in last night. The menu and prices were both great, and the decor felt inviting. As I was leaving, I told the man at the counter how much I’d enjoyed everything and found out it was Billy Reed himself. He shared some of the restaurant’s history and said its anniversary is coming up 12/7. Excellent service, too. You can’t go wrong.

We booked a King bed, one bedroom, and 2 bathrooms, but were given a queen bed, one bedroom, and one bathroom. The pool was filthy, the air conditioner was so loud it kept me awake for half the night, and the window screen was just leaning against the window instead of being attached. There was a thick layer of dirt on the sill as well. My children got covered in whatever was scattered across the room, so I had to keep them off the floor. The room itself was filthy. We found pubic hairs in the bed and what looked like flakes of dry, over-tanned skin on the sheets and around the room. The sheets clearly hadn’t been changed, and nobody had vacuumed. If our kids hadn’t already gone to bed, we would have left. When we asked to have the bedding changed, staff acted as though it was strange and suggested the sheets might not have been washed at the laundromat. I can’t imagine making that bed without noticing the flakes. In the morning, my husband waited at reception, ringing the bell, while waiting for the refund they had offered. The “boyfriend” eventually came out at 9am, looking like he’d just woken up. My husband was leaving and told him to stuff it, then remembered we had things in the fridge and went back for them. Staff barely acknowledged him and just handed over the key. They didn’t offer the discount then either. Later, they called and left a message offering 10% back. We paid $150 for the night. They couldn’t pay me to stay there.

The room was clean, but parking was a hassle. I had quite a walk and then stairs to get to it. Around 10:30 pm I called management to ask for an extra blanket, but nobody answered.
