Edgewater Beach & Golf Resort by ZIA VR

The beach was perfect all week, and the pool area, food, and drinks at Oceans and Edgies were fine. Still, the resort has gone downhill, and the price makes it hard to justify coming back. Only about a quarter of the staff were pleasant to deal with; most seemed rude and didn't want to be there. One main hot tub was out of order, just as it was two years ago, and we had to pass a huge hole marked with cones and caution tape all week. There was also construction by the beach bar for a day that could've been done off season. The elevator was out more often than it worked, including on the busiest check-in day. Pest control came through every condo with no way for us to opt out, which was irritating with small children along. The flag status wasn't updated consistently, so I'd recommend checking it yourself. The condo itself was fine, but this was an okay stay at best, and we're unlikely to return.

Villa 2209 made for one of our most enjoyable beach getaways. The balcony looked over a little pond where turtles and ducks would swim up when we came outside, apparently hoping for a treat. Getting to the Gulf's white sand beach was easy on foot, and there was a tram with several stops around the property when we didn't want to walk. We used both the heated pool by the villa and the main pool by the ocean. The villa had a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and lovely decor, with all the amenities provided. There are lots of good restaurants and things to do nearby. We visited Central Purr cat cafe and Pier Park, which has a huge range of shops and restaurants. Watching fighter jets from a nearby base train low along the coast was amazing.

The room was clean and nicely equipped, and we had a great little vacation. Check-in information came without any hassle, and we liked our host. What soured things for me was the parking. The extra pass didn't reach the gate on time, so we had to chase it down at the office the next day. Then there was the $100 charge to the resort for two cars, after already paying for the rental. A small fee would've been fine, but $50 per vehicle feels like extorting guests, especially since a third car would've cost another $50. We weren't told about the extra charges until about a week before, too late to choose somewhere else. My cousins stayed at a very nice place farther down Front Beach Road and didn't pay extra to park. As much as we enjoyed our stay, I'm salty about the fees and will probably pick another place next time.

The staff were friendly and really helpful, and the beach was right there with easy access. Great location. We'd absolutely come back.
