Sunbird 308E

The individual condo was clean, nicely decorated, and clearly well cared for by the owner. The location also gives the resort potential. But the condition of the rest of Sunbird Beach Resort made the stay disappointing. It badly needs renovation, especially outside: the walls were worn, common-area carpets were old and stained, the lighting was dim, and the elevators were unreliable. During busy periods, we waited anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour for an elevator. The stairwells weren’t a good alternative. They smelled like pee and felt neglected, so they were unpleasant to use. With the property in this condition, I wouldn’t recommend staying again unless there are serious upgrades.

The beach is incredibly close, and each of the three pools has its own beach access and a rinse-off area for the way back. The pools are small, but there are plenty of lounge chairs on the deck. One pool reaches eight feet; the other two are very shallow. The elevators are quick, with little wait. There’s lots of parking in the lot, so there’s no need to use the multi-level garage. Pineapple Willys and other shopping are right next door.

We spent most of our time on the balcony, eating meals and watching the beach. We stayed in unit 206W, which was clean, updated, and well kept, with a kitchen stocked with the cooking tools we needed. There’s no washer or dryer in the unit, but there is a laundromat on site, and parking felt secure. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our beach access code was outdated, so we had to use one another condo guest shared with us. The pools were lovely and clean, and the building is right on the beach beside Pineapple Willys, the popular restaurant and pier bar. It’s an older place, but the upkeep, location, and price are hard to beat. First visit for us, but we’ll be back.
